A performance by Crofton House student playing the pipa at Celebrating Languages Conference 2015

BCATML was very fortunate to have Crofton House student Angela play the pipa for second language teachers at our Celebrating Languages Conference 2015. The pipa is a four-stringed pear-shaped instrument, sometimes called the Chinese lute. The piap is one of the most popular Chinese instruments and has been played for almost two thousand years in China. We greatly appreciate and enjoyed this wonderful performance. BCATML thanks Mandarin Rep Ping Li for coordinating with her students and arranging for this performance.

BCATML Annual General Meeting
Friday, October 23, 2015
Michael J. Fox Theatre - 3 pm

Be sure to attend this year's AGM immediately after your final workshop. We will have excellent door prizes to give away you don't want to miss out on! As well, we need your attendance in order to approve this year's operating budget, as well as acknowledge the work and commitment of BCATML's Executive and Conference committees. Lastly, we need to elect this year's new Executive Committee. We will accept nominations from the floor for any BCTF member in good standing for any of the executive roles. In the event of two or more nominations for the same role, an election will be conducted by all members according to BCATML's constitution. The agenda to the right highlights the shape of the AGM.

BCATML Conference Newsletter is now ready!

BCATML Newsletter Editor, Kelly MacLean, has once again outdone herself in putting together yet another exciting edition of BCATML's newsletter. We hope you will enjoy its new look and find the content helpful in planning your back to school start up activities as well as planning your professional development day with us on October 23, 2015!

Please note that at the time of publishing, two workshops were submitted after the publication of our newsletter.

1) The workshop facilitated by Ulrike Kugler of the Goethe-Institut (Toronto, ON) is available for selection in Session 2 until capacity has been reached. This workshop is described as follows:

“Einsatz von Tablets im Unterricht"
Ulrike Kugler  (Goethe-Institut, Toronto, ON)

Our students live in a world where smartphones and tablets are part of almost every aspect of their daily lives. Instead of banning them from the classroom, why not see the benefits of those devices and use them to make your language courses even more interactive and motivating? In this hands-on workshop you will discover a multitude of apps and get ideas on how to use tablets and smartphones in your classrooms.”

2) "Current Practice in a Spanish Classroom"
