Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) is a second-language teaching methodology that was originally developed by Blaine Ray in the 1990’s.  Grounded in current second-language acquisition research (Stephen Krashen, Bill van Patten), the method continues to develop today and has become one of the most powerful instructional methods to promote natural, authentic second-language acquisition in the classroom.  Class stories are at the heart of the TPRS method and are the vehicle for providing the one essential element for language acquisition to occur:  a steady stream of personalized, compelling and contextualized Comprehensible Input.

BCATML is thrilled to work again with TPRS experts Michelle Metcalfe and Adriana Ramirez and offer all current BCATML members a full day of TPRS training! Join us as we bring BCATML to Duncan, BC on Vancouver Island on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Thanks to Jesse Whittington, SD#79 Distrct French Instructional Coordinator, our one-day TPRS event will be held at the Quamichan Campus of Cowichan Secondary School in the school library.

Space for this one-day training event is extremely limited so don't delay as we can only accommodate 50 teachers! The cost to participate is $50 for all current BCATML members. Non-members may also participate but must purchase a BCATML membership at the time of registration (see below). All registrations will be vetted by BCATML to ensure accuracy of membership status and any adjustments will be made.  A catered lunch is also included with your registration fee along with TPRS-ready resources in your target language to take home. This event will undoubtedly sell out as it did in May earlier this year; so don't delay!

Many teachers have told BCATML that they would like more time with Michelle and Adriana to hone their skills and practice TPRS strategies! Now's your chance to delve deeper with these experts!

Both Michelle and Adriana will provide you with TPRS-ready stories in French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Punjabi and Spanish! This one-day training event has it all covered!
Join us at the Quamichan Campus of Cowichan Secondary School in the school library on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 between 8:30 - 3:30 pm as Michelle Metcalfe and Adriana Ramirez lead us in understanding TPRS pedagogy and developing our skills and strategies for use in the classroom Monday morning. Both Michelle and Adriana will work with smaller groups to give a more individualized and personal focus. You will come away with great new ideas and handouts and meet other teachers just like you!
