I am happy with many of the elements in the new Core French Curriculum (thank you Teachers!); however, I am disappointed that the CEFR is not used as a framework or model for the curriculum. I understand that the "can do" statements reflect many of the elements of the CEFR, but I think that it would be useful to all teachers (new and experienced) to see the actual levels mentioned (A1, A2, etc). The CEFR is an international document, and I feel that our curriculum should acknowledge that especially since many of our students write the DELF exam which is completely aligned with the CEFR.

Thank you for your comments Brenda. In our discussions at the Ministry, we were told that the new curriculum will not use the CEFR levels (A1, A2, B1 or B2) to replace our current grade levels (Gr. 5, 6, etc.). However, if you feel that the current document is lacking CEFR principles and/or philosophies and you would like to see them added, please be sure to send your feedback - both positive and negative - to the curriculum@gov.bc.ca. The committee will reconvene in early 2016 to look at the feedback for Core French.
